AI chatbot for Ghost: answers from your own pages, installed in two minutes
Ghost sites are publications, often with paid memberships. Readers ask how to upgrade, change their email or cancel, and the answers are already on your membership and about pages.
Installing it on Ghost
Ghost has Code Injection built into the admin, with a Site Header and a Site Footer box. Code in the Site Footer is placed before the closing </body> tag on every page, which is where a chat widget belongs, and no theme file needs editing.
<script src="https://thebiggestnerd.com/widget.js" data-key="your-key" async></script>Your own key is in the dashboard once you sign up.
- 1In Ghost Admin, go to Settings, then Advanced, then Code Injection. (Some versions of Ghost show Code Injection directly under Settings.)
- 2Paste the script into the Site Footer box.
- 3Save. The bubble appears on every page and post of the live site.
The thing that usually catches people out
Ghost outputs injected code through two helpers in the theme, {{ghost_head}} and {{ghost_foot}}, so it reaches the page without editing theme files. If you run a custom theme and the bubble never appears, check that its default.hbs still has {{ghost_foot}}. Use the site-wide box rather than a single post's Code Injection in Post Settings, which only applies to that one post.
It will not make things up about your shop
This is the part worth being careful about. An assistant that invents a 60-day return window has made a promise you have to keep. The Biggest Nerd answers from the material you gave it and nothing else — ask it something your pages do not cover and it says so, then points the customer at you.
Questions
Will it slow my Ghost shop down?
No. The script is loaded asynchronously and is a few kilobytes, so the page finishes rendering whether or not the assistant has loaded. If our service is unreachable the bubble simply does not appear, and nothing else on your shop changes.
Can it make up a policy I do not have?
It answers only from the pages and notes you give it. Ask it something they do not cover and it says so and points the customer to you, rather than guessing at what shops usually do. It also cannot see your orders, so it will never claim something has shipped.
Do I need a developer to install it on Ghost?
No. It is one line pasted into Ghost, in the place described above. If you can edit your theme or your site settings you can install it.
What does it cost?
Every account starts with a 3-day free trial with every Growth feature and no card, then plans from $49 a month for 1,000 replies, lead capture included and no branding fee. You are billed on replies because that is the thing you can picture.
