An AI chatbot for your WordPress site that answers from your own pages
Most WordPress sites are not shops, and the questions are different — opening hours, whether you deliver to a postcode, what a service costs, how to book. Those answers are already written on the site somewhere, usually on a page nobody can find.
Installing it on WordPress
WordPress has no one place for a script tag, which is why this trips people up. The theme's footer.php works and is what most guides tell you to edit — and it is also the file a theme update overwrites, taking your chatbot with it. Use a snippet plugin instead and the script survives every update.
<script src="https://thebiggestnerd.com/widget.js" data-key="your-key" async></script>Your own key is in the dashboard once you sign up.
- 1From the dashboard, go to Plugins, then Add New.
- 2Search for WPCode (or Insert Headers and Footers — either works) and install it, then activate.
- 3Go to Code Snippets, then Header & Footer.
- 4Paste the script into the Footer box.
- 5Save. The bubble appears on every page of the site, including posts and pages added later.
The thing that usually catches people out
If you edit footer.php under Appearance, then Theme File Editor, it will work until the next theme update and then silently stop. Caching plugins are the other one: WP Rocket, W3 Total Cache and LiteSpeed all serve the old page for a while, so clear the cache before deciding it has not worked.
It will not make things up about your shop
This is the part worth being careful about. An assistant that invents a 60-day return window has made a promise you have to keep. The Biggest Nerd answers from the material you gave it and nothing else — ask it something your pages do not cover and it says so, then points the customer at you.
Questions
Will it slow my WordPress shop down?
No. The script is loaded asynchronously and is a few kilobytes, so the page finishes rendering whether or not the assistant has loaded. If our service is unreachable the bubble simply does not appear, and nothing else on your shop changes.
Can it make up a policy I do not have?
It answers only from the pages and notes you give it. Ask it something they do not cover and it says so and points the customer to you, rather than guessing at what shops usually do. It also cannot see your orders, so it will never claim something has shipped.
Do I need a developer to install it on WordPress?
No. It is one line pasted into WordPress, in the place described above. If you can edit your theme or your site settings you can install it.
What does it cost?
There is a free tier of 40 replies a month with no card required, and paid plans from $59 a month. You are billed on replies because that is the thing you can picture.
